Legal Internships
CAP-LA seeks interns who share our commitment to criminal defense and justice. Are you passionate about justice and looking to make a real impact in the legal field? Join our team for a semester or during your summer break as a law student intern learning about appellate practice and contribute to advocating for those in need of legal representation.
Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to criminal justice or juvenile delinquency or dependency receive preference. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply and value people of all races, genders (including gender identity or expression), sexual orientations, disabilities, citizenships, ages, religions, national origins, marital statuses, family caregiving responsibilities, and lived experience with the criminal legal system.
1Ls and 2Ls may apply by submitting a resume, cover letter, and writing sample. Candidates selected for an interview may also be required to provide two references familiar with the candidate’s work habits and analytical and writing skills. Applications are reviewed and interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.
Law students’ time at CAP-LA may be for law school credit or pursuant to a work-study program or for pro bono experience.
Summer interns typically work for a period of eight to 10 weeks for up to 40 hours per week. We hope that the summer program will be conducted in a hybrid format, with at least half the time spent in the office and the other portion virtually. This is an unpaid position.
